Individuals who commit to being mentors will act in various roles based on the needs of the mentee – as advisors, teachers, coaches, counselors, motivators and advocates. Mentors will:
- Make a time commitment (based on the agreement between you and your Mentee) of possibly 4 to 6 hours a month, more or less.
- Share their experiences and skills and use these to guide the mentee.
- Become “trusted” sources of information to help mentees look at their skills, experiences and personal needs to move forward in their career.
- Help the mentee navigate other resources — via online tools or subject matter experts – to address issues and challenges, both before and after employment.
- Ensure that mentor/mentee discussions and work together are strictly confidential within the confines of the project
- Agree to share profile information, which will serve as the basis for mentee/mentor matching. (Names will not initially be used in matching.)
- Complete brief monthly updates on progress and outcomes of the mentoring relationship and mentee’s goals; and provide feedback for program improvement.
- Receive online guidance to support the mentee’s career plan, including career transition tools, veteran’s services, job readiness and personal challenge resources. Direct contact with the mentoring coordinator will also be available whenever needed.
